What is the draft deferment for undergraduates and postgraduates in AFU?
Postponement of conscription for military service for students, graduate students and teachers. Updated: October 2026.
Full-time students, post-graduate students, doctoral students and teachers have the right to postpone the draft for the period of study/work. The postponement is granted automatically on the basis of documents. The study is over → the deferment ends. Details below.
Who is entitled to deferment of studies
- Full-time students — educational program of bachelor's, master's, professional education.
- Graduate students and doctoral students — for the entire period of study.
- Persons with disabilities — I, II, III groups (via MSEK/Military Medical Commission (MMC)).
- Employees of education and science — teachers, researchers who work in positions at the place of work.
Grounds for postponement
The postponement is granted on the basis of documents confirming the status of a person:
- Student card or a certificate from the place of study (University, college, professional and technical institution).
- Work book or certificate from the place of work (for teachers).
- MSEK certificate or conclusion Military Medical Commission (MMC) (for persons with disabilities).
Scheme of actions to save the postponement
- If mobilization is open or conscription begins, check the relevance of the postponement in Reserve+ or TRC.
- In case of a change in status (expulsion from studies, loss of job), notify TRC within 7 days.
- After the end of the delay - arrival in TRC for registration.
Nuances for military personnel
From the special military responsibility of 18-25 years, the deferment in accordance with the mobilization legislation does not apply to term service in AFU. Persons serving under the 18-24 contract have a deferment from term service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a delay in distance education?
No. The deferment is granted only to full-time students. The remote form does not give grounds for postponement.
Does the deferment apply if I was already in conscription?
The postponement of the draft is applied to persons who have not yet completed their military service, or those who are serving under the 18-24 contract.
