Can I be exempt from AFU for caring for a disabled spouse?

Wife of I-II or III disability group. Updated: October 2026.

Quick Answer

A wife with I-II disability groups is grounds for dismissal without additional conditions. Wife with III group — only for special diagnoses: oncology, amputations, paralysis. Details below.

I–II
without conditions - dismissal
III
only oncology, amputations, paralysis
MSEK
the wife's certificate is a document

What is different between I-II and III group

For I-II groups of the wife's disability, the MSEK certificate is sufficient. For group III, the law contains a specification: confirmation of the diagnosis from the Peace Hospital will be required; "just group III" is not suitable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the diagnoses in addition to the three prescribed?

The law limits the list: specific diseases of the III group (for example, oncology, amputations, paralysis). The general diagnosis of group III without them gives no reason.

If the marriage is broken, does the grounds for taking care of the wife work?

The marriage must be valid; to take care of his wife I-II gr. it is not necessary to prove disability or the absence of other relatives.
