Experience in the program 18–24. Updated: October 2026.
No. Previous military experience is not required for the 18–24 program. All recruits receive the required basic military (Basic Combined Arms Training (BCAT)) and specialty training for their chosen role—including medical training: first aid, TCCC basics, and survival skills. Details below.
What does a start look like without experience
Most of the participants in the program are people without military experience, and the training is designed for just such a start. In addition to the profession, you will learn life-saving skills: first aid, TCCC basics and survival. What you know from civilian life is taken into account in the interview with the recruiter.
